Public Relations - Catholic Church
The media is buzzing...Pope Benedict XVI has arrived in the United States, and he got a lot of work to. The Catholic Church has been embroiled in a sex abuse scandal, and has suffered a dwindling congregation, fewer financial contributions, and a tarnished image.
To fix what ails the church, the Pope must serve as its CEO. He began this process by choosing to answer questions surrounding the sex abuse scandal. This is classic public relations - pro-active and direct communications to his main stakeholder: the congregation.
It will be interesting to watch the payoff for the church. Can it rebuild its public image and regain its tradition and respect in the eyes of Catholics everywhere? We'll see.
